in the outskirts of Bellingham

I've stopped in the outskirts of Bellingham for a 4:30PM "linner" (or "dunch"). Yesterday, the only solid food I had was a 69-cent package of Nutter Butters-- talk about a blast from the past! Alas, they're not nearly as good as I remember.

Unlike yesterday's weather, which was gorgeous, today is cloudy, cool, and windy. Not that I resent coolness and wind: whatever minimizes the sweat is undeniably good.

I have about another 60 to 90 minutes of walking ahead of me before I reach the Red Cedar Zen Center. Jay Rozendaal tried to contact them and there was no response; I tried calling them and got no response, either, so I'm planning just to tromp up to their front door and see what happens.

This is bad in that it means I might once again be forced to pay for lodging (so keep on buying products, making contributions, and spreading the word about this walk!). The Sikh community's welcoming stance ("just hit the next temple!") is reassuring, but the nearest gurdwara is located 50 miles from Lynden, well out of one-day range. I might hit it later on if things don't pan out with Red Cedar, but I'm not about to give up on the Zen folks quite yet.

More in a few hours, but before I go, I should note that Bellingham also sits on the coast, so I might still have a chance to touch the ocean before I head east in earnest.

Yew should have taken your tent along baby - cheaper than paying for lodging!

Touch the ocean. No maybes, no mights... you need to touch it. It means a lot to you symbolically, and it will be something you can look back on throughout your walk. I realize that you want to keep moving and you've got a schedule, but you should take the time to go to the ocean.
