whew: appointment Wednesday

An appointment with Dr. Fine's team-- if not with Dr. Fine himself-- has been fixed for this Wednesday at 9AM. We'll need to be at NCI around 8:30AM, if not earlier: processing in is a chore, as I recall from last time: you have to pass through a security inspection, and then there's the paperwork. Hopefully there'll be less paperwork this time, since Mom is now officially Dr. Fine's patient (she has been since we first met him), but the security inspection will still be a pain.

Hi Kevin - thanks for writing the blog. It has been a big help to me. I would like to spend time with your mom, but it has not seemed like such a good idea throughout most of her illness. Please let me know if and when I can do ANYTHING at all for you guys or for her. I have been so freaked out and selfishly upset since first hearing about the tumor that I have felt immobilized to do anything useful - except pray.

Now I - also selfishly - don't want to regret not seeing Suk or doing what I can to help while she might still appreciated it. My cell phone # is 703-409-9629 or you can call me anytime at the NALC main number.

My main reason for calling however was prompted by your comments about retirement benefits and the house. Your dad will receive survivor benefits through the NALC Annuity Trust if anything happens to your mom. I'm sure Dale or someone has already clued you in, but for the straight facts you should call Rick LaFollette at the NALC HBP. He is the Annuity Trust Fund Administrator. His office number is 703-729-8114. I think their hours are 8am-3pm or 8:30 - 3:30.

I love you all and you are in my thoughts and prayers every single day.

Thanks, Rosemarie. Dad got a call from NALC today; I think some of this was explained to him already, but we'll eventually need to check up on this information and put in motion whatever paperwork is necessary. Every bit of information helps. I appreciate the references.

As for seeing Mom-- this week is kind of crazy, what with relatives staying over for three nights; we've tried to cancel all visits in favor of having people come by next week. I'll have Dad get in contact with you re: what days are open; he's the guy managing the social calendar.

Thanks again!
